Begin with national directories, then verify the opening on the school district, Head Start grantee, childcare organization or employer’s official career page.

Public preschool is organized locally

Search the district, city and program operator.

A public preschool may be operated by a school district, county office, Head Start grantee, tribal government or community organization. The program name and legal employer may be different.

Before applying

Requirements are not identical everywhere.

Depending on the position, an employer may require early-childhood coursework, a Child Development Associate credential, a state permit or teaching license, CPR/first aid, fingerprinting, a background check, health clearance or experience with young children. Teacher-assistant, substitute, food-service, transportation and classroom-support roles may have different entry requirements.
