Paid work. Guided learning. A recognized credential.

Apprenticeships can open the door to a lasting career.

Free Local Job & Training Help →Learn how American Job Centers can help with local openings, employer referrals and eligible training.

A Registered Apprenticeship is a job from the beginning. You earn wages, learn under experienced workers, complete related instruction and build toward a portable credential.

Begin with sources that lead somewhere useful.

Programs recruit on different schedules. If you do not see an opening today, find the program sponsor, ask when the next application period begins and contact an American Job Center for local assistance.

Applying and Eligibility

Apply directly with the employer or program sponsor. Each program sets its own age, education, testing and other entry requirements and recruitment schedule. Pre-apprenticeship or classroom training alone is not a paid apprenticeship. Job Corps generally serves eligible low-income young adults ages 16–24; ask the program about its eligibility rules. Local training funding requires separate approval.

Protect yourself from misleading training offers.

“Apprenticeship” is sometimes used loosely. A Registered Apprenticeship should provide paid employment, structured on-the-job learning, related instruction, progressive wage increases and a nationally recognized credential. Confirm the sponsor and registration with the responsible state or federal apprenticeship office before paying fees or sharing sensitive information. The records tool below is for completed apprenticeship transcripts; it does not verify a prospective training offer.
