Learn one useful task, check the result and protect the information you share.

Start with work you recognize

You do not need to understand every AI tool before trying one. Choose a familiar task: outlining an email, organizing notes or practicing an interview answer. Familiarity matters because you need enough knowledge to recognize when the output is wrong.

Try a made-up example first. Ask for a short draft, read it carefully and revise it in your own words. Notice what saved time and what required correction. A useful first session ends with a better understanding of the task, not just a longer conversation.

Build a checking habit

AI can produce confident language without reliable evidence. Check names, dates, calculations and factual claims against the original source. A link or citation is a starting point for verification, not proof by itself.

Keep a small practice log: the task, your instructions, the changes you made and the final result. That record gives you concrete examples of your growing skills. At work, use only approved tools and follow the organization’s rules about confidential information.
