California City & County Careers
Direct public-employer hiring resources for California’s 15 largest cities and their counties.
Explore administrative support, maintenance, skilled trades, information technology, public health, libraries, parks and other public-service roles. These links lead to government employers’ hiring portals or human-resources departments; they do not list every job in the surrounding area. Some official application portals use GovernmentJobs.
San Francisco has one consolidated city-and-county government, so both links open the same hiring system.
Before You Apply
Read the entire announcement, including minimum qualifications, required documents, supplemental questions and closing date. Check whether the recruitment is open to the public. Some positions require an examination, eligibility list, license or certification. Ask the employer’s human-resources team about application accommodations when needed.
Keep a copy of your application and confirmation. Search related job titles as well as your usual occupation; each agency uses its own classifications.

Sources & Review
Reviewed October 8, 2026. Each linked agency or employer-operated application portal is the source for its hiring information. Coverage follows the 15-city Census list in Discover California, with San Bernardino County listed separately. This is a focused directory, not a complete list of California local governments; vacancies and deadlines change.
